“Your relationship with yourself will set the tone for every other relationship you have”.
--Robert Holden
Loving yourself may, in fact, be the best decision you can make in your life. In today’s fast-paced society, it’s difficult to slow down. In today’s world, we are not praised to slow down, but rather praised to keep increasing productivity. For the vast majority of the world, people are told that when they are 18 years old, they need to know all the answers. They are told that they need to know what their major in college is going to be, and that they must be ready for college after they graduate high school. Life essentially has to be mapped out. Let me ask you, what happens when you’re not ready for these expectations and depression hits? What happens when anxiety hits? What happens when negative self-talk plagues your mind? What tools are we given to build solid relationships with ourselves? Here is a CRAZY idea - what IF the destruction in our outside environment is a reflection of how many people are feeling in their inner world?
In today’s world, productivity is praised over self-love. We are told to build skills, but lack empathy for ourselves, for others, and for the planet. What if instead of perceiving depression and anxiety as a “negative”... we flip the script and view it as a wake-up call from our souls? What if depression and anxiety are messages that a person needs a massive shift, and that it is time to change the pace of a person’s life and start loving oneself more. It may sound crazy, it may sound common sense, but self-love has the potential to transform a person’s whole world and holds the key to changing the entire world. By healing your inner world, you are helping heal the rest of the planet!
How about we start loving ourselves more, so we are able to see the beauty in others… and the beauty of Mother Earth. Love thyself, love others, love the planet. Next time negative self-talk lurks your mind… sit with it. Choose not to run… choose to sit with it, and in time it will bring you the best joy when you overcome what your subconscious mind is telling you. Next time negative self-talk comes, I challenge you to do the #BabyPictureProject. Write down the negative self-talk… find a baby picture of yourself and say the words of self-hatred to your little beautiful self. I guarantee you’ll be overcome with emotions as you will realize you have been that child all along. Perhaps this will help you start loving yourself a little bit more every day.
To love yourself is a revolution. Be a rebel and love yourself. Each and every one of us is unique. There is no one like you, and there will never be anyone like you. Cherish your heart, for your heart beat is the special vibration of your soul.
